What is the idea of ZAIPAD?

General

The “ZAIPAD” project was launched with the aim of producing plant and animal foodstuffs of the highest quality and in accordance with religious requirements for Africa and neighboring countries in the Middle East, as well as regenerative forms of energy for the European and global market.

ZAIPAD is a Mozambican-European joint venture that aims to build an agro-industrial project in a self-contained system, with a holistic approach, through a joint project company (ZAIPAD). This ZAIPAD project is divided into 3 subprojects (ZAIPAD I, II, III), which build on each other and complement each other in their objectives.

  • … In-house fractionation, further processing and refining of agricultural raw materials into intermediate and final products for processors and end customers (B&B, B&C),
  • … the complete utilization of all processing residues through residual energy recovery,

Specifics

What?

To this end, the concrete 2nd sub-project ZAIPAD II of …

  • the completion and finalization of the port handling structure (ship loading)
  • the construction of storage for 200,000 tons of raw and processed materials
  • the construction of cleaning and processing lines (rice hulling and milling, soybean milling, bottling, packaging)
  • the development and training of local staff and employees in food processing, storage and handling at all levels of this enterprise.

How?

The project management and future operational management of Project management and future operational management of ZAIPAD II will continue to be carried out by the European shareholder of the ZAIPAD project operating company in a holding structure to be established, in which the overall project will be subdivided into individual profit centers of sub-areas of the overall project.

 

Objective – What for and where to?

80% of the food in Africa has to be imported according to the UN Economic Commission for Africa. The region of our ZAIPAD project offers the best climatic conditions for the production of plant food (carbohydrates, proteins, fats), meat production as well as energy, and at the same time the shortest routes with the most cost-effective transportation to the markets of demand but also solvency.

These include: 

  1. All countries of SubSaharan Africa (up to 6000 km) for food.
  2. Madagascar as UN country of need (1.000 km) for foodstuffs
  3. Arab Emirates and neighboring countries for protein carriers and meal for meat & milk production.

ZAIPAD II

Amount of investment: > EUR 300 million

  • of which at least EUR 120 million or up to 40% of the total investment secured by state and domestic funds secured (regional and national infrastructure)
  • at least EUR 180 million of foreign investment with the option of through additional investments in case of interest in entering the processing lines and follow-up projects by taking over more shareholder shares (up to 60%)

(In this context, we understand entrepreneurial participation opportunities to mean that, in addition to the classic investment opportunities, foreign investors within the ZAIPAD project also have additional options to meet demand from markets they have developed themselves by taking over their own partial production from this project or to have such demanded agricultural and energy products manufactured there)

  • … Perspective securing of additional adequate participation options in the follow-up and expansion stages ZAIPAD II (further processing) and ZAIPAD III (green hydrogen) through corresponding contributions (potential > EUR 1.0 billion)
